After immersing yourself in the charming streets of Athens and indulging in the vibrant culture, it’s time to take a closer look at the ancient wonders that make this city so special. From the majestic Acropolis overlooking the city to the fascinating ruins of the Agora, there is no shortage of iconic landmarks to explore. The perfect location for our adventure was the Athens Gate Hotel, with a rooftop view of the Acropolis and a perfect location.
After our arrival, it’s best to stay awake to get on Athens time, so we joined a food tour. What better reason to stay awake. We love the Secret Food Tour of Athens for that and was able to get a great preview of the area with a guide. She even helped answer some general Athens questions we had. Would definitely do this tour again.
For our next day, we continued our journey through Athens, we visited the iconic landmarks that define the city’s rich history and culture. From the majestic Acropolis and the Temple of Olympian Zeus (walking distance to our hotel) to the ancient ruins of the Agora and the historic Panathenaic Stadium, each site tells a story of Greece’s storied past. We even traveled further the next day to head to Cape Sounion, ruins of the Temple of Poseidon. Wander through the ancient streets, marvel at the intricate architecture, and imagine what life was like in these bustling hubs of civilization. With each step, you’ll be transported back in time, experiencing the beauty and significance of these historic sites firsthand. See tour links above. (See slideshow below)
We spent our evenings strolling the Plaka and eating and drinking all things Greek. The metro was easy to use, however, be weary about pickpockets.(see my travel store for travel safe purses)
After 4 great days in Athens, we flew to Santorini and checked into our hotel: Absolute Bliss Imerovigli Hotel.
We enjoyed 2 full days in Santorini, and we spent them wisely. We always made time for the sunsets, they are spectacular, during the day we enjoyed a sailing trip around the island and a wonderful tour of the island. Dinners were delicious and we did head to Oia for the sunset and dinner one night at Dimitri’s Ammoundi Taverna. The tours we did were: a Catamaran Luxury Cruise in Santorini and a Small Group Santorini Tour around the Island.
